Resumo
O presente artigo discute a influência decisiva de alguns traços da modernidade na formação da arte mágica moderna. A nova cosmovisão e o espírito da modernidade, em plena expansão no século XVIII , influenciaram de modo decisivo o surgimento da arte mágica contemporânea em sua forma plena, em meados do século XIX. O objetivo é mostrar que os fundamentos artísticos e o imaginário do qual a arte mágica se alimenta expressam os valores e o espírito da modernidade, bem como seus aspectos
ocultos e marginais, mascarados pelo discurso oficial de seus porta-vozes, eminentemente céticos e racionalistas.

Abstract
This article discusses the decisive influence of different aspects from Modern age in the formation of the modern art of conjuring. The new vision of the world and the spirit of time, whose climax happened in the XVIII century, had influenced in a decisive manner the advent of the contemporary art of magic in its full form, in the later XIX century. The article intends to show that the foundations and the imaginary in which the art of magic is based not only express the spirit and the values of Modern age, but also its occult and marginal aspects, hidden by the official statements of its own representatives, who are eminently skeptics and rationalists.
