Resumo

“Com que roupa?” é a metáfora utilizada neste artigo para percorrer as terminologias que designam as pessoas acima de 60 anos, especialmente o termo ‘terceira idade’, uma construção social para identificar os que vivem a velhice, etapa da vida mais próxima da finitude e que continua sendo negada. Não existe uma nomenclatura que se possa dizer correta, ela depende da resposta que cada um dará à pergunta ‹que velho habita meu ser?›, em que cada qual buscará no armário aquela ‘roupa’, que o fará se sentir mais confortável ante seu longeviver.

Abstract

“What Clothes should I wear?” This sentence reflects the metaphor used on the pages to come. This article will go over different terminologies used to designate people above the age of 60, giving special attention to the term “third age”, a social construct that identifies the elderly, those that live in the closest stage to their finitude, and that have their old age denied. There is no one terminology that is correct as a universal understanding, the quest for the right terminology depends on the answer each person will give to the question “What old age will I wear?” the truth is it’s a personal choice in which each person is invited to take a look in the closet and search for the clothes that will make them feel more comfortable in this new stage of life.
