RESUMO

Quais são as tendências das pesquisas fisiogerontológicas? Esta pergunta levou à realização de uma pesquisa bibliográfica de produções acadêmicas do Programa de Estudos Pós-Graduados em Gerontologia da Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo, de 2000 a julho de 2007, traçando-se o perfil das pesquisas fisiogerontológicas. O primeiro passo para a concretização desta pesquisa foi o levantamento dos alunos egressos e, logo após, a coleta dos resumos das 171 dissertações produzidas, analisando dados como elaboração da pesquisa, objetivos, metodologia desenvolvida e as considerações finais. Para a entrada da digitação das nformações fechadas e o tratamento estatístico dos dados, escolheu-se o software Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), uma vez que se trabalhou com perguntas fechadas elaboradas a partir dos resumos. Cada trabalho foi classificado em um grupo temático elaborado pela pesquisadora e, a partir disso, foram selecionados os 34 trabalhos realizados por fisioterapeutas, traçando a tendência das pesquisas fisiogerontológicas na PUC/SP. Pôde-se verificar que a maioria dos estudos realizou investigações que expuseram temas relacionados à qualidade de vida do idoso, longevidade, aspectos clínicos do envelhecimento, processos patológicos, serviços e programas assistenciais à saúde no segmento idoso. Por meio dessa investigação, estabeleceu-se de forma clara que o envelhecimento humano não pode ser analisado apenas pelo aspecto biológico do ser. Os estudos assinalam a necessidade de uma abordagem humanística e cultural, possibilitando maior compreensão sobre a longevidade, o envelhecimento e a velhice. A partir disso, sugere-se a criação da disciplina Fisiogerontologia nos cursos de graduação em Fisioterapia para ampliação do que vem a ser o cuidado por parte de futuros fisioterapeutas.

ABSTRACT

What are the gerontological physical research trends? This question has prompted a bibliographical research consisting of the analysis of the profile of the gerontological physical research production of the Graduate Program in Gerontology at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo, from 2000 to July 2007. The research was done by obtaining the list of former students, gathering the abstracts for all the 171 available dissertations and then analyzing the research data, compilation, objectives, methodology and final considerations. Due to the use of closed questions based on the abstracts, the software Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to input the closed data and perform the statistical analysis. The researcher classified thedissertations into different thematic groups and selected 34 studies which were carried out by physiotherapists, thereby establishing the trend of the gerontological physical research at PUC/SP. One of the conclusions was that most of the studies investigated issues related to the quality of life of elderly people, longevity, clinical aspects of aging, pathological processes, and health care services and programs for the elderly. Through this investigation, it became clear that the process of aging in human beings cannot be analyzed only from the biological standpoint. Studies point to the need for a humanistic and cultural approach which could enable people to better understand the issued related to longevity, aging and old age. To this end, a suggestion is made for the introduction of a discipline called Gerontology Physics in the curricula of the Physiotherapy undergraduate program in order to provide future physiotherapists with a better understanding of the meaning of caring.
