RESUMO

O artigo propõe uma reflexão sobre a função do grupo na realização do trabalho social com idosos, do lazer como instrumento das atividades cotidianas e da intenção educativa que deve levar os idosos a explorarem suas potencialidade, entenderem suaslimitações e se libertarem de experiências negativas vivenciadas no passado,favorecendo a construção de novas expectativas vivenciais. Os grupos possibilitam muitas formas de inter-relacionamento humano, educação social e 
estímulo às demandas pela realização de projetos que sejam do interesse de todos. Acima de tudo, é um método eficiente a ser empregado em todos os tipos de esforço educativo. A educação deve ser um processo contínuo preparando os indivíduos para todas as etapas do ciclo de vida, ou seja, gerando novas atitudes e pensamentos adequados ao enfrentamento de todas as situações no decorrer da existência humana. No tempo do envelhecimento o processo educativo, além de preparar para o entendimento da modernidade dando instrumentos para a adaptação do indivíduo ao meio social, deve atuar também num sentido inverso ao das etapas anteriores do ciclo de vida, ou seja, conduzindo para a compreensão e aceitação das perdas, bem como reduzindo as marcas das experiências negativas que tanto dificultam o melhor aproveitamento do momento atual.

ABSTRACT

The article proposes a reflection on the function of the group in conducting social work with the elderly, of leisure activities as a tool for daily activities and of the education intent which leads the elderly to explore their potentialities, understand their limitations and overcome their negative experiences of the past, thereby facilitating the construction of new experiential expectations. Groups allow for many forms of human inter-relationships, providing social education and fostering the implementation of projects of common interest. Above all, it is an efficient method to be employed in all types of educational efforts. Education must be a continuous process through which individuals are prepared for all the stages of the life cycle, by generating new attitudes and thoughts and enabling them to adequately face all the situations arising from human existence. Besides preparing elderly individuals to understand modernity, by providing them with the tools for adapting to the social environment, the educational process must also work in the opposite direction of the one in the preceding life cycle stages, thereby helping with the understanding and the acceptance of losses, as well as with the reduction of the effects of negative experiences, which prevent the proper appreciation of the present moment.
