Resumo
Este artigo apresenta uma leitura do ensaio “A crise na educação”,
de Hannah Arendt. Procura elucidar de que forma, para a pensadora,
a crise na educação está vinculada à crise mais ampla do mundo.
Busca compreender os grandes traços do ensaio, abordando três questões:
o que é educação? Como a crise do mundo atinge essa atividade fundamental?
Como Arendt se posiciona diante da crise na educação? O texto representa,
portanto, uma tentativa de compreender o ensaio arendtiano e,
ao mesmo tempo, busca mostrar a atualidade das questões tratadas pela
pensadora no fim da década de 1950. Enfatiza-se, em especial, por que
as perdas de tradição e autoridade afetam o mundo público e atingem, de
modo peculiar, a educação, cuja tarefa é introduzir os jovens nesse espaço.
Finalmente o artigo salienta que, apesar da crise, Arendt não isenta os
adultos da responsabilidade pelo mundo público que devem assumir frente
às crianças.

Abstract
This article presents a reading of the essay “The crisis in education”
by Hannah Arendt. It seeks to elucidate how, for the thinker, the crisis in
education is linked to the broader crisis in the world. It attempts to outline
the guiding threads of the essay by addressing three questions: what
is education? How does the world’s crisis strike this fundamental activity?
How does Arendt position herself on the crisis in education? Therefore this
text is limited to the attempt at understanding Arendt’s essay and, at the
same time, it seeks to show the current relevance of the issues addressed
by the thinker in the late fifties. It emphasizes in particular why the loss
of tradition and authority does affect the public world and strike in a particular
way education, which task is to introduce young people into that
space. Finally the article points out that, despite the crisis, Arendt does
not relieve adults of their responsibility for the public world that they must
bear vis-à-vis the children.
