Visual Arts

Sesc supports the creation, dissemination and appreciation of all manner of visual art and the intersection of artistic expression and other forms of culture through exhibits, installations, productions and performances. Various educational projects occur in conjunction with these activities, including guided tours of exhibits and ateliers, and poetry-based activities developed by educators. Special emphasis is also placed on beginner to advanced classes and workshops that explore different art and handicraft techniques.

The Sesc Brazilian Art Collection – The Sesc Brazilian Art Collection is yet another of the institute’s undertakings in the visual arts. The collection is part of our cultural heritage and serves as the backbone for our cultural and educational endeavors vis-à-vis the arts and artistic expression. Artwork is on permanent display in our regional centers, and individual pieces are occasionally lent for temporary exhibits elsewhere, thereby forging relationships with other pieces and forming part of the dialogues specific to each project.

The collection is based on three thematic pillars: modern art, contemporary art and folk art. It encompasses pieces and artists that relate to the themes, concepts and techniques characteristics of these guiding pillars.

Our primary responsibilities include cataloguing artwork, conserving pieces and doing preventive maintenance, restoration, reviewing distribution of the pieces to the different Sesc venues, and designing programs and educational activities involving the works in the collection.
