Senior Citizens

Throughout the more than fifty years that Sesc has been active in both the social and cultural scenes, first in São Paulo and then across the country, activities geared towards senior citizens have undergone regular assessment and adjustments to ensure they can meet any needs that may arise. Sesc takes into account social and cultural settings and the belief that education is a means for social change to offer senior citizens a place for social interaction, to experiment with different forms of art and movement, and to engage in wide-ranging cultural activities.

To give senior citizens greater visibility, to truly grasp what they face and to anticipate their future needs, it is imperative that we study, systematically design activities and reflect on ways to engage in ongoing dialogue with both this primary group of attendees – senior citizens – as well as with people from other age groups. The purpose of interaction is to expand activities and discussion concerning the golden years as part of the aging process.

In addition to activities designed specifically for this group of Sesc attendees, we have been publishing Mais 60 since 1977. This magazine includes studies on aging and covers research meetings that reflect and focus on topics relevant to aging. Mais 60 and all published articles are produced in partnership with universities, government agencies and other research institutions.
