Human Rights

The human rights center pursues actions intended to enrich debate and create spaces for education where the public can learn more about human rights. This is done by sharing a wide array of concepts regarding social rights and the self-determination of peoples, and discussing access to justice and to public spaces. The broad scope of this center encompasses developing public policies and intervention practices through social and educational activities built on the need to establish a dialogue on human dignity, tolerance and social justice.

One activity Sesc has been offering since 1995, for example, is Portuguese language classes for refugees and asylum seekers. We do this in addition to other activities that extend our commitment to dialogue as a tool against prejudice and discrimination and for the promotion of social inclusion to civil society. Another Sesc project, a joint effort with the Brazilian Center for the Cooperation and Exchange of Social Services (CBCISS), involves regularly scheduled symposia that encourage the dissemination of knowledge and reflections on contemporary topics that are of interest to social workers.
